David Griffiths' Lake Applet has become a true Internet Classic -- probably the single most used applet of all.  He's also continually improved the applet -- which now provides JavaScript controls (below) for version 4 and later browsers, as well as the new rocking and underwater effects.

David's applet is free.  The kit he provides is superb -- this demo is taken directly from it -- so do take time to read it well.
